The appropriacy of the analytical models for calculating the shear capacity of cross-laminated timber (CLT) under out-of-plane bending

Abstract Rolling shear, an inherent property of cross-laminated timber (CLT) due to the weak shear strength cross layers, is always determinant load-bearing capacity for short-span CLT members subjected out-of-plane bending. Many analytical models were developed calculate members. Because difficulty precisely model complicated failure mechanisms, however, no was universally accepted. This paper aims study appropriacy commonly used models, namely, composite beam theory, analogy method, Gamma and simple by tests calculations. A theory-based simplified method proposed.
